My Story
Nisichawayasi Asiniskaw Nehethowuk are the people who live on the lands near where the Three Rivers Meet.
I am a member of Nisichawaysihk Cree Nation. I have mixed ancestry; Rocky Cree, Czech and Franco-Manitoban. I have combined psych nursing and traditional indigenous wellness experience. I completed my Bachelor of Nursing at the Université de Saint-Boniface in Winnipeg, MB in Summer of 2021. I started my nursing career in acute adult psychiatry in emergency mental health until Winter 2022 as a Registered Nurse.
I moved my Registered Nurse practice to Community Work in Spring 2022 at Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimanakak Inc. I started as a Community Wellness Liaison to support families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit peoples+ (MMIWG2S+). My most recent role is the Gender-Based Violence Bundle Carrier (Coordinator) to support survivors of gender-based violence. I was able to grow into my true life and identity as a traditional helper with MKO Inc. and remain forever grateful for the space to combine my mixed knowledge and use my traditional gifts.
I've completed the necessary theory and coursework with the College of Health Studies: Certified Nurse Psychotherapy Program online (Main campus is in Brampton, Ontario). I am currently practicing as a Student Nurse Psychotherapist under supervision. I expect to achieve full certification by the end of Spring 2026.
My focus and specialty is in grief, gender-based violence and sexual traumas. I hope to a part of growing the support and wellness services for Northern Manitobans and inspiring intergenerational healing.
About the Name and Logo
Pisew's Bundle Name
The name and logo combine my 2 traditional spirit names. These are the energies and helpers that guide my healing work.
The hummingbird brings love, light and joy and the pisew (lynx) is a master of their mind. A bundle is a toolkit to collect healing items, tools and resources.
